22nd July 2018
The week started well with 3 members attending the popular Lincoln Wellington 5km Race Series. Richard Burrows ran with a time of 00:20:44 (57th), followed by Philip Horton with 00:21:19 (62nd) and Robin Harrison in a time of 00:24:23 (84th). It was a strong field with the winning time being 00:15:12. Well Done to all three gentleman in this race.
Skegness and District Running Club displayed another impressive contingent of 77 runners into the popular Grimsby 10K road race on Sunday. This year saw over 3000 participants on the fast, flat course in North Lincolnshire. With temperatures dropping slightly and I mean by a couple of degrees, it saw SADRC get PB galore!
Boston’s Mark Sands achieved 10th place overall and 1st place MV45 to be the first club member to cross the finish line (33:33). 2nd club male to complete the course in 37:05 was Spilsby’s Will Kelly and 3rd for the men was Ed Crawford (Horncastle) in 39:40. For the ladies it was Molly McKay who was 1st club lady to complete in 47:03, made even more impressive due to the fact she had cycled to the event from Spilsby before running the 10k distance (and then cycling home afterwards!). Hot on her heels was Leanne Rickett (Boston), firmly cementing her comeback from injury by posting another great result and being 2nd club lady to finish the race in 47:30. In quick succession, just 15 seconds later, was 3rd club lady Angela Thompson (Spilsby).
The Grimsby 10k played host to many personal best achievements for the SADRC runners including; Ian Dexter (59:41), Sarah Thomas (58:37), Debbie Scott knocked over 4 minutes of her previous Woodhall time (1:21:02) and Joyce Baumber (1:12:41). Maria Yuill and Amy Lambley managed to both post PB’s of exactly the same time of 55:08 running in different waves of the race as was the format for the first time this year.
Also several runners chose this fantastic event as their first race, first 10k and first run in club colours. Rob Ster was one of those and was really pleased to post a result of 59:49. Jade Kirman smashed her expected time with 1:12:43, Dawn Allen achieved 1:00:19 and Darrell Brown’s first 10K was an impressive debut posting 49:28. A big well done to all SADRC runners at Grimsby 10km, same time next year!
In addition on Sunday, Alistair Frost flew the colours for SADRC at Cawthorpe 10km raising money for the Emma-Jayne Memorial Fund. Despite a few directional problems along the route, Alistair finished in a time of 00:48:02 and finished 3rd overall. All for an excellent cause, with an excellent finish! Well Done Alistair!
This Wednesday (25th) see SADRC host the last Bolingbroke Breaker 10km of the year. It starts at 7:15pm from The Black Horse Inn at Old Bolingbroke and is £4 to enter. Some testing hills, but a fantastic event, with lots of support, and a chocolate bar to all finishers. Please come and support this fantastic event.
If you would like to take their running further or find out more about getting started you are more than welcome at any of the club running nights, Spilsby on Tuesdays, Horncastle on Wednesdays, Boston on Thursdays and Skegness on Fridays. All abilities are welcomed with support, advice and a great run guaranteed.
