SADRC traveled to Lanzarote for a hilly and hot Half Marathon and 10km on Saturday.
The beautifully scenic route went along the pier from Puerto Del Carman to Costa Teguise taking in the sea air!
Seven runners completed the undulating Half Marathon. Mark Sands finished in 8th place and came 1st in his age category with a time of 1h22. Andy Shelton followed with a great time of 1hr38 and Leanne Rickett with 1hr51. Steph Scott ran a strong race with a time of 2hr25 describing the run as “hot, hilly and headwind.”
Helena Shelton and Rebecca Grice ran the course together, taking in the sites and free watermelon along the way. Maurice Tompkins completed the route, and enjoyed the appreciated headwind in the tough heat.
3 runners ran the 10km route which was a tough 10.7km course! They ran along with the marathon and half marathon runners, enjoying the support along route. Ed and Hannah Webster wore the Skegness colours for the first time after completing the C25K with the club! They ran together and crossed the line 1h18. Debbie Scott from Skegness finished with 1hr31.
The club enjoyed the finishing atmosphere with free non alcoholic beer and a fantastic buffet where we saw Mark on the podium collecting his award! SADRC on tour over for another year, who knows where next year will take us!
Meanwhile, 10 club runners took part in the annual Skegness Santa run, organised by the Rotary club.
The 5k route took all the santas along the seafront and back. Martin Chapman (Skegness) said: “Hohoho Christmas must be around the corner, another Skegness Santa fun run on a perfect sunny morning! The run was absolutely brilliant and it always makes me laugh seeing so many Santa runners running up and down Skegness seafront.”
