Start the new year off with a bang!

6th January 2019

Running stops at no time of the year, not even in the Christmas Holidays and SADRC showed that with a great start to the year!

Barry and Janet Norton finished off 2018 with style at Peterborough NYE 10km. Barry finished 1st in his age category with a great time of 1:10:47. Janet also finished strong, finishing in 2nd position in her age category in a time of 1:11:24. Well Done to you both!

It didn’t stop there! NYD was attended well with 13 members running the Cleethorpes 10km. This race is very special to SADRC as it marks their birthday. This year, the club celebrated their 4th birthday, going from strength to strength with now 260+ members over the 4 sites.

Mark Sands finished first for the club and 4th overall with a time of 33.02, and a first 10km PB in the last 20 years! Mark Collingwood ran a fantastic race finish within 40 minutes in a time of 40:44. Andy Shelton is ready to make his mark on 2019 with an excellent time of 40:44. Andy’s aim throughout the year is to get back under that magical 40 minute mark.

Mark Lyon ran 42:22 followed by Martin Chapman starting the year with a fantastic PB of under the 43 minute barrier with a time of 42:58. Emma Marshall Telfer is back and finished the run as first SADRC lady. Emma finished with a time of 47:47 followed by Brain Darrington dead on 48 minutes.

Sam Fox finished as SADRC second lady with a time of 52:33 and Becky Lee third with 54:31. Julie Goodwin finished with 57:55. Graham Farley ran his quickest 10km in 14 months, and hoping to improve this in 2019 and keeping injury free! He finished under the hour with 59:24 followed by Ian Dexter in a time of 59:56. Helena Shelton finished the day with a time of 1:10:33.

At the weekend, SADRC attended the County Cross Country Champs at Biscathorpe with 18 members on the start line for this year’s County Champs. This course is a true test of strength and stamina, with a mixture of undulating terrain, hills and of course stream crossings. Added in this year were a couple of extra sections which would be best described as boggy. Paul Jackson was the first runner back for the club with Mark Sands and Ed Crawford giving him good support to close out our A team. Unfortunately Lincs A.A were unable to confirm team results on the day so we will await to see if the team receive county badges. Alan Wheeler, Mark Collingwood, Chris Halligan, Chris Sweeney, Jason Stainton and Mark Lyons all ran well to close out the clubs B & C teams. Matt West, Andy Shelton, Martin Chapman and Rob Goddard all worked hard throughout on a demanding course. A fantastic effort from everyone, but particular credit to Chris, Martin and Rob who were experiencing their first taste of cross country.

In the Veteran ladies race we had 4 runners representing the club. Tammy has an excellent run finishing in the top 5, even having time to take a dip in the mud. Becky Lee had a great run, working hard throughout and a strong finish helped her hold of a number of runners closing in on her. Sarah Smith, running her first ever Cross Country race at the age of 62 had a fantastic debut and worked hard round the 5.7km course. Zoe Ward enjoyed another really good run for the club, even having the strength to high five her teammates as she came into the finishing funnel. Again we wait to see if we have received county badges. In the Senior ladies race, Victoria Edwards was the sole representative. Unfortunately after a strong start, Victoria twisted her ankle and was unable to continue.

Well Done to all participants.

If this is the start of 2019, who knows where it could lead us!
